Anne Shirley is the beloved, artistic red head of the Canadian series. Lucy Maud Montgomery published a cycle of novels about Anne, her family, and her friends starting in 1908.
Anne herself is a delightful, flitting, sparkling character born when Montgomery saw a picture of a model in a magazine. Her childhood, education, and adulthood make charming stories, and the books' publication history is equally fascinating.
This blog will include analyses of the Anne books, including Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne's House of Dreams, Rainbow Valley, and Rilla of Ingleside.
I will review the more obscure, related works, Chronicles of Avonlea and Further Chronicles of Avonlea.
In between, I'll discuss Lucy Maud Montgomery's fascinating publication story, including her legal battles for control over the books.
